A hand mixer is an electric, handheld mixer convenient for quick tasks and combining smaller batches of ingredients. This versatile kitchen tool typically has two removable beaters and may come with a variety of attachments for flexibility and easy clean up. It's compact and portable for use and storage. They are less powerful than stand mixers, so are perfect for mixing small quantities, and for when you want more direct control over the mixture. Hand mixers can be used in short bursts for kneading soft doughs. Nearly all the models in our test, however, struggled to incorporate flour from the edges of bowls. Hand mixers are great for quickly mixing smaller, lighter batches and are more compact and portable, but stand mixers are best for long mixing times and large or heavy mixtures. Stand mixers also generally offer more versatility with a wider range of attachments and accessories and offer hands-free mixing.
